Villanova will be without one of its stars for the Final Four, the Wildcats announced Sunday evening.

During Saturday’s Elite 8 win over Houston, Justin Moore went down in a heap late in the game. After it initially appeared Moore lost his footing, replays showed a non-contact injury happening to the lower part of his right leg.

He left the floor and was visibly emotional as the Wildcats capped off their win.

Sunday evening, Villanova head coach Jay Wright shared the news that Moore had sustained a torn Achilles tendon. Moore will undergo surgery and will be out indefinitely moving forward.

“This is a tough blow for all of us, not just because of the great player Justin is, but because of what he means to us as teammates and coaches,” said Wright via press release. “As one of our captains, Justin has been an integral part of our success. He helps our team in so many ways. Every game, he guards the opponent’s best scorer and is one of the toughest rebounding guards we have had in our time at Villanova.

“Justin’s work ethic and dedication will help bring him through this recovery and we look forward to the day where we see him back on the court fully healthy.”

Moore was Villanova’s second-leading scorer this season, averaging 14.8 points per game while starting 36 games. The Wildcats will face Kansas in the Final Four next Saturday.
