Virginia Tech's bizarre trick kickoff return ends in epic disaster
Virginia Tech had a slim shot at winning the game against Notre Dame, but the Hokies destroyed any hopes of a win with this bizarre kickoff return play.
After taking a slim 21-20 lead with less than 30 seconds to go, Notre Dame kicked off. Virginia Tech received the kick and proceeded to try and trick the Fighting Irish.
The act of deception involved four Hokies gathering around the returner in a tight huddle. Then, the huddle broke with the returner breaking free.
It obviously appeared to be an attempt to distract Notre Dame from which player had the ball. The problem? The player who received the kick kept the ball, and the Irish were absolutely not deceived.
The returner was dragged down inside his own 10-yard line as Notre Dame quickly closed in on him:
