On the heels of a 26-16 loss to Oregon to drop the program to 4-5 on the year, Washington announced on Monday it has suspended head coach Jimmy Lake one game without pay for an incident that took place on the sideline during the Oregon game.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reported that defensive coordinator Bob Gregory will handle head-coaching duties for the upcoming game against Arizona State.

Rittenberg also shared a statement from Washington AD Jen Cohen, who announced the suspension after an investigation into the incident:

Lake can be seen below in a black hoodie coming over from the left side to smack the helmet of one of his players on the sideline. The incident occurred in the first quarter of Saturday’s game after a tackle on a kickoff spilled over into the Washington sideline. An Oregon player and a Washington player had to be separated before Lake entered the picture.

For the 2nd-year head coach, it’s the latest in what has been a tumultuous week. Lake fired Washington offensive coordinator John Donovan on Sunday following the team’s performance against the Ducks. According to 247Sports, wide receivers coach Junior Adams will take over as the team’s play-caller and Payton McCollum, an offensive analyst, will take over as the interim quarterback coach.

The Huskies (4-5, 3-3 Pac-12) host Arizona State (6-3, 4-2 Pac-12) on Nov. 13. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on FS1.
