Washington arrived in Bloomington against some serious odds on Saturday, facing an Indiana team that was the talk of college football at 7-0.

ESPN’s College GameDay even paid a visit to IU for the 1st time ever for a Saturday show, highlighting the incredible job that Curt Cignetti has done in his 1st season as head coach. And while the Hoosiers held a 24-14 lead late in the 3rd quarter as they fought to continue their dream season, there was a moment when Washington could truly believe it had a shot at the upset.

It happened on the 1st play of the 2nd half, when Tayven Jackson dropped back and fired a pass down the middle. The pass was broken up, as many passes are from time to time. But here’s where things got weird. After a Washington player deflected Jackson’s pass, it went backward toward the line of scrimmage and was picked off by a … defensive lineman?

Yes, senior Jacob Bandes miraculously intercepted the deflected pass, setting Washington up in great shape suddenly at the Indiana 24-yard line.

A few minutes later, Demond Williams Jr. scored on an 8-yard run, getting the Huskies within 17-14 and putting a little doubt into the crowd at Memorial Stadium. Indiana did respond with a touchdown of its own though later in the quarter and took a 24-14 lead into the final period, with an 8-0 record in sight.
