WATCH: BTN crew debates which system is best for determining conference championship game matchups
This is certainly an interesting topic for fans to debate.
In a recent segment on the Big Ten Network, the crew addressed which conference championship game model they prefer. Four of the five Power 5 conferences utilize a division model to determine which two teams will play in the conference title game, but the Big 12 simply takes the two teams with the best records to play in the conference championship.
For James Laurinaitis, he admitted that he likes the Big 12 model a bit. However, he is not a fan of re-matches in a conference title game:
“I think if we’re talking College Football Playoff and the implications of it,” said Laurinaitis, “I think the Big 12 has it figured out. However, I am old school, and I don’t like the fact of having a re-match.”
Dave Wannstedt explained he doesn’t care if there is a re-match or not in a title game. He simply likes the fact that the two best teams get the opportunity to play for the Big 12 Championship:
“I like the Big 12’s formula,” said Wannstedt. “You’re getting the best two teams, the two deserving teams on the field playing.”
