A Texas high school football player suffered a concussion after being targeted, attacked and choked by an opponent during a game played on Sept. 13.

The incident occurred in a matchup between Burleson High School and Waco University High School last month. A video caught players from Waco targeting Burleson’s Jagger Gower at several points throughout the game.

The video shows Gower being targeted, shoved and slammed to the ground repeatedly. At one point, footage appears to show one Waco player on top of Gower, choking him.

FOX 4 News shared the video, and interviewed Gower’s mother after the incident.

The player who choked Gower was ejected from the game. Gower has not yet been cleared to play, according to FOX 4 News.

According to the Waco Independent School District superintendent, that player has also been suspended indefinitely.

“Between those games, there were additional consequences that were also imposed by our coaches,” said Marcus Nelson, the superintendent. “It involved physical punishments, extra running, and several other activities that I’m hesitant to document more clearly because I believe our student at least has some right to a confidentially. As soon as I became aware of the incident I suspended the student-athlete from all extra-curricular activities until all further notice.”

In the video, Gower’s mother believes her son was targeted because he was the quarterback.
