The B1G East is undoubtedly one of the toughest divisions in all of college football.

With four teams ranked in the preseason AP Poll, the B1G East is definitely up for grabs. Ohio State at No. 5 is the highest ranked team in the division heading into the season, but Penn State, Michigan State, and Michigan are not far behind.

The FOX College Football crew took time in a recent segment to dissect the division ahead of the season, and two teams in particular were highlighted as teams to watch moving forward.

Robert Smith opened the discussion by highlighting Ohio State as his pick for the top team in the East and in all of the B1G. While he does have the Buckeyes as the team to beat this season, Smith believes the arrival of Shea Patterson will make Michigan a big competitor:

“I do look in the East. The competition, I believe, is going to come from Michigan,” said Smith.

Matt Leinart also agreed that Ohio State is the team to beat in the East, while Joel Klatt and Dave Wannstedt took time to highlight the depth and talent for the Buckeyes.

As for a team to watch for in the East, Klatt also picked the Wolverines to make some noise and to challenge the Buckeyes in the division:

“I think Michigan could have one heck of a football team,” said Klatt. “They’re gonna have a top 5 defense in college football.”
