Mike Leach, the head coach at Washington State, is known for his extreme personality.

And, extreme in a good way. He’s very personable. You could see him being a classic dad. He’s funny.

From a football sense, Leach is known for his offensive mind and air raid attack. On Friday, Washington State played Houston and won the game 31-24, moving to 3-0 overall.

That’s great.

What ended up not being so great was a trick play that Leach attempted during the game.

This is… pretty odd looking. The formation looks completely normal. And realistically, it is. The odd part is that the wide receiver in the slot is the one snapping the football.

This play would have been legal if the player would have kept the ball down on the field while snapping it to the quarterback. Since he picked it up before tossing it back, it was ruled a penalty.

According to some on Twitter, Leach and the Cougars tried this multiple times last season and it worked:
