Defenders will grab anything they can get their hands on to bring down the guy with the ball.
Jersey, shoelaces, and even hair have all been used to bring down a ball-carrier. At Memorial Stadium, it was undershirt that helped one Indiana defender stop an Illinois return man.
During a kick return in Saturday’s game between the Hoosiers and Illini, return man Nate Hobbs had a little too much of his undershirt hanging out below his jersey, allowing an IU defender to grab on and hold for dear life.
It resulted in one really hilarious scene at Memorial Stadium.

That’s something you don’t see every day.
Not only was that hilarious, it probably saved the Hoosiers a few extra yards on that return. Maybe next time Hobbs will tuck that shirt in, or at least hide it a little better.
