WATCH: Texas Tech DL Eli Howard throws punch, stays in game
Football is football.
We love the game for what it is. The strategy behind everything is what makes the sport so great. Football, however, is different from boxing.
You can’t punch people.
At least, that’s what the rules say. If you punch someone, you get ejected. There’s no way around it.
Apparently in the Texas Tech-West Virginia game on Saturday, though, the refs missed this punch:
A Texas Tech player throws a punch he’s still playing. Josh Norwood makes a hard football play breaking up a pass with his shoulder and is ejected and out for the first half next game.

Offsetting personal fouls, but Texas Tech DL Eli Howard should be ejected after throwing a punch at Yodny Cajuste. That was a full swing.

Howard, a 6-foot-4 DL, didn’t exactly land the punch, but it is what it is. He should have been ejected. As the tweet with the video mentioned, the Big 12 has to do better.
Texas Tech went on to lose the game against West Virginia 42-34.
