Dan Campbell fits the description of “Football Guy.”

Campbell, who is the new head coach of the Detroit Lions, had a fiery introductory press conference on Thursday, bringing new hope to a franchise that has struggled for decades. And his incredible comments are making their rounds through social media.

After referring to Detroit as a tough, hard-working city and reiterating his dedication to building a winning team, Campbell talked about the kind of mentality he wants his players to have. And it was quite the speech.

“We’re gonna kick you in the teeth, and when you punch us back, we’re going to smile at you,” Campbell said. “And when you knock us down, we’re gonna get up. And on the way up, we’re going to bite a kneecap off.”

Detroit hasn’t appeared in the NFL playoffs since the 2016 season and just finished the 2020 campaign with a 5-11 record. The franchise has not gotten past the Wild Card Round of the playoffs since the 1991 season. So, yeah, the city is ready for a change of pace.

Will Campbell be that guy? Only time will tell. But he certainly “won the press conference,” and is clearly the “Football Guy” that the Lions need to have in charge.
