West Virginia is going back to its roots for the Week 1 showdown with No. 17 Pitt. The return of the Backyard Brawl shouldn’t disappoint.
The Mountaineers will be wearing their ‘Country Roads’ alternate uniforms for the game, named after John Denver’s hit song which has become 1 of their traditions in Morgantown.

Brett McMurphy of Action Network posted about the uniforms. They’ll be mostly white with blue on the shoulders. The shoulders will also have roadmaps of I-79 and roads from the state. The helmets will include the West Virginia inside of a picture of the state.
This Backyard Brawl will also feature 2 former teammates at QB. J.T. Daniels and Kedon Slovis were both at USC during the same time, and are reuniting on the football field.
Even if you aren’t a fan of either team, this matchup should still be fun to watch. The last time the Backyard Brawl happened was back in 2011.
This year’s game will be broadcast on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
