What were they thinking? Syracuse loses in embarrassing fashion with terrible final play
The Syracuse Orange might have just had the most embarrassing end to a game we’ve seen all year in college football.
When trailing 36-29 on fourth-and-goal, Orange quarterback Rex Culpepper stunningly spiked the ball as the clock hit zero which gave NC State the victory.

Culpepper also needed to just throw the ball away on third down instead of just running for his life since that ended up being an 11-yard-loss. That would’ve given Syracuse enough time to actually draw up a play to either tie or win the game.
This embarrassing play was the big outlier of an otherwise great day for Culpepper as he was 23-for-45 with 254 yards passing. He also had two passing touchdowns for the Orange.
This loss dropped the Orange to 1-9 on the season and they’ll likely finish 1-10 as their last game of the season comes against No. 2 Notre Dame next Saturday.
