Whoops! Official showered with boos after referring to New Mexico as rival school
There’s just some things that you can’t mess up as an official during a college football referee. Probably near the top of the list is mistakenly referring to a team as its rival.
That embarrassing moment happened when a ref called New Mexico “New Mexico State” in its contest vs. Utah State:
Never mix up rivals 😂😅 pic.twitter.com/WirH7JxC1c

Ouch. That’s a Southwest Airlines wanna get away moment if there ever was one.
New Mexico trails Utah State 28-0 at halftime. The Lobos have a 3-8 overall record and are sixth place in the Mountain West. New Mexico is on a three-game losing streak, most recently falling 37-0 at Boise State. The Lobos’ last victory came at Wyoming on Oct. 23.
Utah State has an 8-3 record overall record and is first place in the Mountain West. The Aggies lost 44-17 vs. Wyoming last week, which snapped a five-game winning streak.
