The last 48 hours in college football as the regular season has come to a close has been bonkers. Oklahoma loses Lincoln Riley to USC, and Notre Dame loses Brian Kelly to LSU.

Two of the winningest programs in college football history have a vacancy opening at the top spot of their respective schools. One of the most interesting twists in this whole ordeal is that Notre Dame could still theoretically make the College Football Playoff.

Many people wondered if head coach Brian Kelly would coach the Irish if they were to make the CFP. Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick put an end to that speculation on Tuesday morning.

“If Notre Dame makes the Playoff, AD Jack Swarbrick confirms that Brian Kelly will not coach the Irish in the CFP,” according to Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports.

Notre Dame has made the CFP 2 of the last 4 seasons. Last season they were the No. 4 seed and lost to No. 1 Alabama 31-14. In 2019 Notre Dame got smoked by Clemson 30-3 in the CFP. Notre Dame has never made the CFP National Title Game.

Notre Dame can make the CFP if a few teams lose in their championship games, and they have the luxury of not playing in one.
