Winning the transfer battle: Here's how B1G teams rank in recruiting the portal
The transfer portal has changed the way college football coaches recruit. With student-athletes receiving immediate eligibility in most situations, there’s a new element to the world of recruiting.
Some coaches dive head-first into the transfer portal, looking for prospects who can work into a plug-and-play situation. Others are more selective in the process, hoping to build primarily on high school recruiting.
247Sports has created a transfer portal rankings database, much like it has with high school recruiting. It shows the disparity between some of the teams that recruit the best from the portal and which steer clear of it.
Here’s a look at how all 14 B1G teams stand midway through January:
- No. 12: Indiana
- No. 17: Michigan State
- No. 19: Nebraska
- No. 21: Minnesota
- No. 28: Rutgers
- No. 32: Purdue
- No. 59: Ohio State
- No. 61: Northwestern
- No. 69: Maryland
- No. 85: Michigan
- No. 92: Illinois
- No. 101: Penn State
Two teams are still currently unranked from the B1G: Iowa and Wisconsin.
