It appears that Vanderbilt has honed in on a new head coach in Notre Dame defensive coordinator Clark Lea, and after the announcement from the Southeastern Conference that the Commodores game with Georgia has been canceled, Lea’s first game at the helm will have to wait until next season.
According to a statement from the SEC, the game was canceled because Vanderbilt was unable to field a team above minimum roster requirements, consistent with SEC Covid-19 protocols.
As a result, the Bulldogs have only played three home games this season in Sanford Stadium, with six road games to finish 7-2. Vanderbilt finished the season winless in seven games.
According to Yahoo Sports, Georgia is currently looking to find an opponent to replace Vanderbilt and celebrate Senior Day on Saturday. The UGA seniors need two more wins to become the winningest class in school history.
NEWS | The Vanderbilt at Georgia FB game of Dec. 19 is cancelled due to the Vanderbilt football squad size and position availability falling below roster minimum requirements. The game is declared a no-contest. The action is consistent with SEC COVID-19 protocols.
