Jedd Fisch Bio

Jedd Fisch is a rarity in his profession. He’s the only power conference head coach in the country who never played football in high school or college. He was an all-state tennis player at Hanover Park High School in Livingston, NJ, who attended Florida specifically to try and find a way to work with then-Gators’ coach Steve Spurrier.

It took months of pestering the Old Ball Coach and dozens of Post-It notes left on his car before he finally succeeded, first earning the unofficial position of student assistant before finally gaining the official title of graduate assistant for 2 seasons after earning his degree in criminology.

From that unusual beginning, Fisch has built a diverse resumé with experience at the college and NFL levels. He’s made up for his lack of playing experience by serving apprenticeships under some of the best and biggest names in the business. It’s a list that includes Spurrier, Dom Capers, Brian Billick, Mike Shanahan, Pete Carroll, Sean McVay, Jim Harbaugh and Bill Belichick.

Fisch got his first taste of being a head coach in 2017 when he took over on an interim basis at UCLA after Jim Mora was fired. He led the Bruins to a regular-season-ending win against Cal that helped them gain bowl eligibility.

Three years later, in 2020, he got his first full-time opportunity when he was hired by Arizona. Although he managed only 1 winning record in his 3 seasons with the Wildcats, that 10-3 mark in 2023 was enough to earn him a 7-year contract worth $7.75 million annually to coach Washington.
