2021 WR decommits from Illinois following coaching change
As of mid-day Wednesday, 10 players from the 2021 Illinois recruiting class had signed to play in Champaign next season, according to the Chicago Tribune.
But in an announcement on twitter Wednesday afternoon, Chevalier Benson announced his withdrawal from his commitment to Illinois, based on the recent coaching change.
Due to the recent coaching change at the University of Illinois my family and I have decided that I won’t be signing today. With that being said, I will be re-opening my recruitment and decommiting from Illinois !

The action is picking up due to the beginning of the early signing period on Wednesday, but it remains to be seen if some others decommit as well.
Smith’s firing potentially leaves the Illini’s 2021 class in a bit of limbo, as others may wait until the February signing day to see who is hired as the new coach.
