Illinois can’t seem to escape the injury bug. It continues to swarm the Illini, even during fall camp.
On Tuesday, Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer reported that highly-touted four-star freshman defensive back Marquez Beason was carted off the field during practice. The Illinois cornerback suffered a “concerning” leg injury and didn’t complete practice.
“He didn’t finish practice. He went down with a knee injury and didn’t finish practice, so that’s concerning,” Lovie Smith said. “We’ll kinda see how it goes.
“We play football. Injuries happen. You don’t want them to happen, but they do. All of America, guys are getting hurt.”

Beason will undergo further evaluation to determine the severity of the injury. There were no specifics given on the nature of what occurred.
Beason is one of two highly-touted prospects that were members of Illinois’ 2019 recruiting class. Quarterback/athlete Isaiah Williams is another player who the Illini have been high on during fall camp. Both are expected to make contributions immediately.
