Illinois basketball fans are hoping for some good news soon, as one of the Illini’s top prospect from the class of 2022, Cam Whitmore, is about to make an official announcement about his future.

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound small forward is rated a five-star recruit and ranked as the No. 21 player in the class of 2022, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Playing for Archbishop Spalding High School, the prospect from Severn, Maryland is the No. 5 small forward in the nation, and the top player in the state of Maryland.

The hiring of Chester Frazier in May has brought an east coast conduit to the Illini program. Frazier, from Maryland, has helped to bring the program to the attention of east coast prospects.

Whitmore has whittled down his list to North Carolina, Villanova and Illinois, and completed his campus visits in September — he will be announcing his decision on Thursday, Oct. 7 on CBS Sports HQ at 3:00 PM ET.
