Saturday night was a tough one for Nebraska running back Maurice Washington.

Though Washington had played well early in Saturday’s game between Nebraska and Illinois, his game ended sooner than expected after sustaining what appeared to be a lower body injury in the first half. He walked to the locker room just before halftime. He was unable to return to the contest.

Washington rushed for 89 yards on 10 carries before exiting the contest. He was having quite the evening and was a huge difference maker on the field.

After leaving the game, Washington sent out a heartfelt message on Twitter.

“The only thing that hurts is me not being able to cheer my teammates on,” Washington wrote.

In the first three games of the season, Washington rushed for 179 yards and one touchdown. He also had eight receptions for 149 yards and two touchdowns.

Nebraska has been thin at the running back position since the start of the season, so Washington’s injury is suboptimal. We’ll continue to keep an eye on his status.
