Curbelo originally joined Illinois as a 4-star prospect and the No. 8 point guard nationally for the class of 2020, according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. He was also a top-50 prospect nationally for the cycle.
During his freshman campaign, Curbelo appeared in 31 games off the bench and captured the B1G’s Sixth Man of the Year award. He struggled with injuries this past season and appeared in just 19 games (4 starts) as the Illini became regular-season co-champs of the B1G.
In 50 games, Curbelo had career averages of 8.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and shot 43% from the field. Best of luck to him as he moves on to his next destination.
