It took five extra minutes, but Illinois escaped the United Center with a win over Northwestern on Wednesday night.

The two rivals met in a Round 1 matchup in the B1G Tournament, with the winner advancing to play Iowa on Thursday. The Fighting Illini and Wildcats traded punches throughout the night, but Illinois was too much in overtime, registering a 74-69 win over Northwestern.

Andres Feliz recorded his first career double-double in the win, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the win. But early in the game, it was Giorgi Bezhanishvili who kept the Illini in the contest with 16 first half points. He finished the game with 26 points and four rebounds before fouling out.

Trent Frazier also came up big for Illinois, scoring 21 points.

Four Wildcats reached double figures on Wednesday night, led by A.J. Turner with 20. Derek Pardon had 17 points and Miller Kopp and Aaron Falzon each pitched in with 11.

Illinois now advances to the second round of the B1G Tournament and will play Iowa on Thursday evening. The two teams met just once in the regular season, with the Hawkeyes winning 95-71.
