The wide receiver room is going to be virtually unrecognizable in Champaign next season. According to 247Sports, a sixth Illini wideout has decided to hit the transfer portal.

Carlos Sandy, a rising fifth-year senior, has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. He joins Marquez Beason, Jafar Armstrong, Deuce Spann, Desmond Dan and Dalevon Campbell. All have entered since November.

Sandy played a total of 191 snaps for the Illini during the 2021 campaign. He was credited with 4 catches for 16 yards during a 5-7 season.

During his time with Illinois, Sandy caught 10 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. The former 3-star recruit will still have two seasons of eligibility to use at his next destination.

Illinois is going to have to replace a lot at the wide receiver position heading into the 2022 season. The Illini are also looking to respond in a positive way after having the B1G’s worst passing offense last fall.
