Illinois is finding its stride at just the right time with Ayo Dosunmu lighting it up in the process.

Entering Saturday’s game on the road against Minnesota, the Illini were riding a six-game win streak after back-to-back losses in mid-January. During that stretch, Dosunmu has been phenomenal while eclipsing 20 points three times and posting a triple-double during a Feb. 6 win over Wisconsin.

Against the Gophers, Dosunmu started somewhat slowly scoring the ball while getting the rest of the Illini involved. It resulted in strong first-half numbers for Kofi Cockburn and Trent Frazier as Illinois built a 15-point lead at the buzzer.

In the second half, Dosunmu started to take control of the game and helped engineer a dominant second-half run as Illinois pummeled Minnesota. He finally grabbed his 10th rebound with just a couple of minutes remaining in the game, securing his second career triple-double. He finished with 19 points on 9-for-16 shooting with 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

For Dosunmu, it goes down as his second career triple-double, making him the first player in Illini history with multiple triple-doubles. He holds two of the four triple-doubles all-time in school history.

On the back of Dosunmu’s performance, Illinois blew out Minnesota by 31 points, 94-63. Kofi Cockburn led all scorers with 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting.
