Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn are early candidates for the B1G Player of the Week by the time next Monday rolls around.

The Illinois tandem both registered double-doubles on Tuesday night, as Illinois defeated Purdue 79-62 in Mackey Arena. It was the first win for the Illini in West Lafayette since 2008.

Dosunmu posted his first career double-double with the Illini, scoring 18 points and dishing 11 assists. He knocked down 8-of-12 field goal attempts during the contest, as well. Cockburn finished the night as the game’s leading score, totaling 22 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in the win.

Trent Frazier also had a big night, scoring 21 points and converting on 5-of-7 attempts from behind 3-point range.

Illinois extended its win streak five games, beating Purdue twice over the last 16 days. The Illini have also gotten wins over Wisconsin, Rutgers and Northwestern.

With the victory, Illinois maintained its spot at No. 2 in the B1G standings, improving to 6-2 in conference play. It is just a half-game behind Michigan State, which currently sits at 6-1. The Spartans are in action on Thursday, when they travel to Bloomington to take on Indiana.

Illinois is 14-5 on the season.
