Illinois guard Ayo Dosunmu made history in the Illini’s 75-60 win over Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon.

Dosunmu produced a triple double, marking the first time an Illinois player has reached that benchmark since 2001. Dosunmu poured in 21 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists in the victory over the Badgers.

According to 247Sports’ Jeremy Werner, the last Illinois player to record a triple double was Sergio McClain on Jan. 13, 2001 in a game vs. Michigan.

Dosunmu and Illinois center Kofi Cockburn completely dominated this game, which was not as close as the final score indicates.

Illinois won the rebounding battle 46-19. Dosunmu and Cockburn combined for 18 rebounds in the first half. For the game, that duo combined for 26 boards. Cockburn also added a game-high 23 points on 13 shots.

Thanks to Cockburn’s efficiency, Illinois shot 52.8 percent from the field. That helped make up for a concerning 18 turnovers from the Illini.

No. 12 Illinois entered this game in the top five nationally according to KenPom, and should move up the rankings in next week’s AP Poll. The Illini also scored a road win over Indiana this week.

Illinois’ upcoming game vs. Michigan has been postponed, so its next contest will be vs. Northwestern on Feb. 16, barring any schedule changes.
