Ayo Dosunmu to return to Illinois for jersey-raising ceremony
Ayo Dosunmu will be returning to his alma mater in just under a month.
He’s going to be coming back to the Illinois campus for a jersey-raising ceremony, according to 247Sports’ Joey Wagner, when the school takes on Maryland on Jan. 6.
Dosunmu will be the 34th player in school history to have his jersey put up to the rafters at State Farm Arena. He played with Illinois for three seasons (2018-2021) and averaged 16.7 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game, and 3.9 assists per game.
His best season came in 2020-21 when he averaged 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. That then led to the program getting a No. 1 seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
Going into the tournament, he helped Illinois to a 24-7 overall record, including a 16-4 mark in B1G play. The program also ended last season at No. 2 in the final AP poll.
Dosunmu is currently playing for the Chicago Bulls and is averaging 6 points and 2 rebounds per game.
