Illinois might have to take the floor without its star again.

Thursday, the No. 5 Fighting Illini played without star Ayo Dosunmu, who suffered a facial injury in Tuesday’s 81-72 loss to Michigan State in East Lansing. Dosunmu did not play on Thursday as a result of the injury.

Adam Miller stepped up in a big way, scoring 18 points in Dosunmu’s absence, 16 of which came in the 1st half. Kofi Cockburn led the way with 24 points and Illinois closed out their home schedule with an 86-70 win over Nebraska.

Friday morning, Brad Underwood spoke with the media ahead of the team’s trip to Madison to take on No. 23 Wisconsin. The head coach said that Dosunmu’s status for Saturday’s game is still in question.

“Before I get asked, Ayo’s situation is no different than it was last night,” Underwood said, per Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer. “There’s no need to continue to beat that up. We’ll always do what’s in the best interest of that young man, his career and our team.”

Dosunmu is the team’s leading scorer and assist man, averaging 21 points and 5.3 assists per contest. He’s also shooting 48.6% from the floor and 40% from the 3-point line.

Illinois enters Saturday’s game with a 13-4 record in league play and 17-6 overall. Wisconsin has a 10-7 mark in the B1G and 16-8 on the year.

Saturday’s game is set for 2 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN. Illinois defeated Wisconsin in the game in Champaign earlier this month 75-60.
