Illinois’ 2021 offense picked up a big boost on Friday afternoon.

Notre Dame transfer receiver Jafar Armstrong announced his commitment to the Illini.

He made that decision on Twitter:

Armstrong wasn’t a big part of Notre Dame’s offense this past season, but he has shown big flashes in the past. For his career, he’s totaled 807 yards from scrimmage and nine total touchdowns.

A lot of that production came in 2018 as a sophomore when Armstrong rushed for a career-high 383 yards and seven touchdowns.

Although he’s listed as a receiver, Armstrong has more experience running the ball than he does catching it. He rushed it 135 times for 513 yards, compared to 30 catches for 294 yards while at Notre Dame.

Armstrong only played in four games for the Fighting Irish this season, so he should still have two years of eligibility remaining.

This is the second major transfer win for new coach Bret Bielema in as many days. On Thursday, Illinois secured a commitment from Alabama DB transfer Eddie Smith.
