Brad Underwood addresses costly injury to Illinois G Luke Goode ahead of 2022-23 season
Brad Underwood is starting off the 2022-23 college basketball season on a tough note. The Illinois head coach announced guard Luke Goode will miss extended time with a broken foot sustained recently.
Just finished a 1-on-1 interview with #Illini coach Brad Underwood @WCIA3, first chance to ask about Luke Goode's broken foot:
"I'm just sick for Luke, he was playing so well. We had him penciled in as a starter. Just an effort play, stepped on an opponent's foot" pic.twitter.com/2oiob8skzk

“I’m just sick for Luke, he was playing so well,” said Underwood. “We had him penciled in as a starter. Just an effort play, stepped on an opponent’s foot…Unfortunately, he’s out for the short term, we’ll see what it looks like. He’ll have some surgery and we hope to have him back before too long. Big loss.”
Goode averaged 2 points and 1.8 rebounds in nine minutes of action as a freshman last season. In addition, he shot 37.2 percent (16-43) from deep. Goode posted a season-high of 9 points against Michigan State.
God has a plan for everything!! Can’t wait to watch my guys ball out the first half of the season. I’ll be back as soon as possible!! 🧡💙 https://t.co/LjrvNqMiTX

This is certainly a tough loss for Underwood and company. Goode would have given the Fighting Illini depth around the wing and another 3-point option. Illinois fans hope to get him back before the end of the season.
