Kofi Cockburn made his final decision on Wednesday, declaring for the 2022 NBA Draft and hiring an agent. That means the career for the Illinois big man has come to a close in Champaign.

Cockburn was an All-B1G and All-American selection after averaging a double-double last season. Head coach Brad Underwood has nothing but well wishes for the 7-foot center.

“We wish Kofi the best as he prepares for his NBA career. His growth and development over the last three years was remarkable,” Underwood said, per 247Sports. “He leaves as the greatest center in Illini history, which is evident by his many accolades. But above those individual awards, it was his impact on winning that will leave a legacy. We’ll always be grateful to Kofi for what he’s meant to our program and know he has a bright future ahead.”

Cockburn leaves the program on a high note, helping lead Illinois to a B1G Tournament title in 2021 and a regular season crown in 2022.

“To play in the NBA has been a longtime dream of mine and I truly think it’s time for me to take that next step,” Cockburn wrote on Twitter. “With that being said I will be putting my name in the 2022 NBA Draft and signing with an agent.”

Cockburn was an All-B1G and All-American pick this past season after averaging a double-double. He posted 20.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per contest while shooting over 59% from the floor. The 7-foot center helped lead Illinois to a share of the B1G regular season title.

Illinois also made a trip to the NCAA Tournament and reached the Round of 32. Cockburn scored 36 points and collected 21 boards in two games in March Madness.

By the end of the season, Cockburn tallied 17 double-doubles. He scored in double figures in every game and exceeded the 20-point mark in 15 contests. He scored a season-high 38 points in a win over Texas-Rio Grande Valley and collected a season-best 18 rebounds twice.

Cockburn ended his career playing in 90 games and recording 45 double-doubles for the Illini.
