Bret Bielema and Illinois will be without one true freshman wide receiver for the rest of the 2022 season.

During his Monday press conference, Bielema confirmed that Shawn Miller will be sidelined for the season and will have season-ending surgery. Bielema did not elaborate on the type of injury (Via the Illini Inquirer):

“Unfortunately he won’t be with us the rest of this year,” Bielema said. “He’ll have surgery that will be a season-ending deal. They haven’t nailed down exactly how it’s at but it’s obviously that will take him out for the rest of this year.”

Miller was a 3-star prospect via the 2022 recruiting class and was a key piece for the cycle for the Illini. He played in the Week 0 opener vs. Wyoming but did not see action in Week 1.

Hopefully, his recovery goes smoothly and he is back for a full-go in 2023.
