Bret Bielema and Illinois lost a tough game against Indiana 23-20. He knows his team will have to clean some things up down the stretch per Joey Wagner of 247Sports.
Illinois had a hard time of not turning the ball over. The Fighting Illini had 4 turnovers to Indiana’s 2. Tommy DeVito threw 1 interception, and Illinois lost 3 fumbles. Bielema understands how hard it can be to win games when you give the other team the ball that often.
“The biggest one for me was the turnover margin and we were minus-two,” said Bielema. “Those things are part of the process that I want them to understand and for our coaches to understand how we call a game, how we recruit, how we build, how we practice based on winning those three areas or doing our best to do it. If we strike out in all three, it’s going to be very hard for us to have success.”
Illinois did a much better job of taking care of the ball against Wyoming, with 0 turnovers. Illinois fans can see what a Bielema-run team looks like when ball security is a top priority.
