There were several milestones surpassed as Illinois shocked No. 7 Penn State on the road 20-18. The first milestone was that this was the first game in FBS history to reach eighth overtime.

The second milestone was that Illinois got their biggest win over a top 10 program on the road in 14 years.

The third and final milestone was that this win over Penn State was the 100th win for Illinois head coach Bret Bielema.

In his seven years as head coach at Wisconsin from 2006 to 2012, Bielema accumulated an overall record of 68-24. Bielema left to become the head coach of Arkansas, where he accumulated an overall record of 29-34 from 2013 to 2017.

Bielema now has Illinois sitting at 3-5 on the season with victories over Nebraska, Charlotte and Penn State. Saturday’s road victory over the Nittany Lions was probably the sweetest.
