Bret Bielema gave an encouraging update on Illinois quarterback Tommy DeVito’s injury.

DeVito suffered an ankle injury in the 1st quarter of last week’s win over Iowa. The injury subsequently left DeVito’s status in question for Week 7.

The injury for DeVito to leave the game, which caused concern for the team. Illinois dealt with several other injuries in the game and Bielema had to work all way to determine the statuses of the injured players.

Bielema did not rule out DeVito for this week’s game against Minnesota. Bielema revealed that DeVito was able to participate in some capacity in practice. DeVito will have less than 48 hours to be cleared to play in a pivotal B1G West matchup.

No. 24 Illinois was ranked for the first time since October 2011. After nearly 11 years without being ranked, Illinois is trying to compete for a B1G Championship in 2022. DeVito has played a vital role in the team’s 5-1 start to the season. In 6 games, he has passed for 1,163 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions.

He is in his 1st season at Illinois after transferring from Syracuse. It has been a great transition for DeVito in his 1st season with the program.
