When Brandon Peters grabbed his left shoulder after a sack against Nebraska, it was like the energy was sucked out of Memorial Stadium.

Peters, the Illini’s sixth-year quarterback, came back out later in the game with his arm in a sling and didn’t play the rest of the game. Rutgers transfer Artur Sitkowski came in and led Illinois to a 30-22 win over Nebraska in Week 0.

It doesn’t sound like Peters’ injury is as serious as it could’ve been, though. Illini coach Bret Bielema said the injury isn’t “long-standing” and he isn’t yet ruling Peters out for a Week 1 matchup with UTSA this week.

If Peters can’t go, Sitkowski proved he’s capable of running the offense. He completed 12 of his 15 passes for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns en route to B1G Offensive Player of the Week honors.
