Illinois opened the 2021 season with a win over Nebraska, but since then has been struggling through the beginning of the Bret Bielema era. After giving up 10 points in the fourth quarter, and falling to Maryland, 20-17 on Friday night it doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

But the Illini will be hoping to get back on track this weekend in West Lafayette.

Quarterback Brandon Peters was injured during the opener with Nebraska, and after a two-game hiatus returned to the lineup against the Terps. But the former Michigan QB had difficulty throughout the game dealing with pressure in his face, and failed to throw for a touchdown.

Even with the three-game losing streak at hand, Bielema has been clear that he will stick with Peters behind center.

In 2019, Peters helped lead the Illini to a bowl game appearance, engineering a 25-point comeback in a road win against Michigan State to help clich their sixth win and the bowl berth.

Illinois travels to West Lafayette to take on Purdue on Saturday, Sept. 25 for an 11:00 AM kickoff.
