Bret Bielema spoke about his quarterback in a recent interview with Greg McElroy on ‘Always College Football’. Tommy DeVito has been a key part of the Illinois offense this season.

Most Illinois fans know that DeVito came to Champaign after spending some time at Syracuse. While at Syracuse, DeVito had 3,866 yards passing with 28 touchdowns.

As a member of the Fighting Illini, DeVito has 1,121 yards passing with 9 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions. What Bielema saw at Syracuse was someone who just needs time to throw the ball, and it’s starting to pay dividends at Illinois.

“I saw a guy that when you gave him time and he wasn’t on his back, he was a very accurate passer,” said Bielema. “He’s got a live arm, understands the game. He’s really adapted very well, and he’s very exciting to watch.”

DeVito will be facing a very formidable offense with Iowa up next. We’ll see if the Illinois QB can keep things going with the Hawkeyes coming to town.
