Bret Bielema dropped an unusual metaphor regarding his team’s defense, but it got his point across.

There wasn’t much offense to go around Saturday night. The Fighting Illini earned their 5th win of the season over Iowa, 9-6 in a game only a mother could love.

Bielema loved the performance of his defense, though. He called the unit “the best fire department in the history of the United States” for the way it extinguished bad situations.

Illinois has been the surprise of the B1G this season. Tommy DeVito and Chase Brown have the offense looking good, but the defense, as Bielema noted, has been incredible all year. Only Indiana has scored over 20 points on the Illini this year.

Let’s see if Illinois can keep the ball rolling.
