Carey Davis, former Illinois fullback, names last Fighting Illini star better than Chase Brown
It’s not fair to say former Illinois fullback Carey Davis had a hard time deciding on a better Illinois player in football history than Chase Brown, but it was something around those lines.
Brown has been one of, if not the best running backs in college football this season. He leads the nation with 879 rushing yards through just 6 games, averaging 146 yards per game for you math whizzes out there.
Davis named the last Illini player as good as Brown and even mentioned “Heisman” when speaking to Carl Reed of 247Sports Monday.
“For me, my mind automatically goes to running backs. I’m going to go with another former Pittsburgh Steeler in Rashard Mendenhall. He did a fantastic job at Illinois, had a very good career in the NFL and he ran that football, man. What Chase Brown is doing right now, I don’t want to speak to soon but if the Illini keep on this path and Chase keeps on the same path that he’s on, we could be having a Heisman conversation.”
