Casey Thompson, FAU QB, receives reported injury diagnosis ahead of Illinois game
Casey Thompson, a former starter for Texas and Nebraska at quarterback, is now in his sixth college football season as a part of FAU. Unfortunately, Thompson was injured in Week 3 and received some disappointing news on Monday.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Thompson sustained a torn ACL in a game against Clemson and will miss the remainder of the season. He was leading FAU with 509 passing yards and 5 touchdowns through the first 3 games of the season.

FAU has started the season 1-2 under Tom Herman and must not account for the loss of Thompson. The Owls are also preparing for a trip to B1G country to face Illinois.
Without Thompson, the Owls turned to Daniel Richardson in Week 3. He has completed 20-of-34 passes for 120 yards with an interception in 2 appearances this season.
As for Thompson, it’s a disappointing blow for the former Husker and Longhorn. He was a leader for Nebraska in 2022 but Matt Rhule’s Huskers eventually went with Jeff Sims as the starting QB ahead of the 2023 season.
