Here’s something you probably didn’t expect to read today: Illinois is trailing Charlotte at halftime at home.

Not great, Bob.

The Illini had a rough go in the first half, especially in the passing game. Quarterback Brandon Peters has completed 7 of 14 passes for just 57 yards, but he did throw his first touchdown of the season.

At least the running game is going strong. Josh McCray and Chase Brown have combined for 107 yards on 24 carries, which is keeping Illinois afloat offensively.

But Charlotte is finding plenty of success in the air — a common tale for the Illinois defense this season. Quarterback Chris Reynolds has been efficient, going 9-for-10 passing for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the 49ers to a 14-10 halftime lead.

The second half is just about to start on the B1G Network from Memorial Stadium in Champaign. Bielema is certainly going to have to make adjustments if he wants to avoid another bad loss.
