After a few days of his future plans being up in the air, Miami wide receiver Jeff Thomas confirms he’s transferring to Illinois.

Bob Asmussen of the News-Gazette reported on Monday evening that Thomas is transferring out of Miami and will be arriving in Champaign. Over the weekend, it was reported that the talented wide receiver might be looking for a return to the Hurricanes’ football team following Mark Richt’s retirement and the hiring of Manny Diaz.

“I’m on my way now,” Thomas told Asmussen. “I’m really excited to get started at Illinois.”

Thomas was a priority target for the Illini during the recruiting process in 2017. The St. Louis-area native was heavily considering Illinois but eventually committed to Miami. This past season, Thomas played in 11 games, totaling 35 receptions for 563 yards and three touchdowns.

Illinois has benefited tremendously from the transfer season. In addition to Thomas, the Illini have landed commitments from TE Luke Ford (Georgia), OL Richie Petitbon (Alabama), and WR A.D. Dillon (Oklahoma).

Thomas is expected to file an appeal with the NCAA in an attempt for immediate eligibility.
