Ex-Georgia DB announces transfer to Illinois
Bret Bielema has added another defensive back from the SEC to his first Illinois roster.
Tuesday night, the Fighting Illini landed a commitment from former Georgia DB Prather Hudson. He made the announcement with a post on Instagram. He will be a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility to use in Champaign. Hudson will be immediately eligible for the 2021 season.
Hudson played in 53 games with the Bulldogs, mostly on special teams, but also saw some action at running back. He totaled 8 tackles while working on kick returns, kickoffs, punts and punt returns. He also totaled 97 yards on 25 rushes and had 2 catches for 29 yards.
Bielema has now landed two former SEC defensive backs over the last few weeks. Recently, the Illini received a commitment from former Alabama defensive back Eddie Smith.
Illinois has now seen six players from the transfer portal commit to the program since Bielema was named the head coach in December. That’s essential for the program, as the 2021 recruiting cycle is limited in size and ranks last in the B1G currently.
The Illini finished up the 2020 season with a 2-5 record, but Bielema is looking to make a big splash in his return to the B1G and his first season in Champaign.
