Shortly after the 2019-20 college basketball season came to an end, Illinois guard Alan Griffin entered his name in the transfer portal. It didn’t take him that long to find a new home, either.

Late Saturday, Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer wrote that Griffin has committed to Syracuse. He picked the Orange over offers from Arizona, Dayton, Iowa State, Miami and Texas. Griffin will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Unless he is granted an immediate eligibility waiver from the NCAA, Griffin would need to sit out the 2020-21 season before being able to return to the court.

This season, Griffin was Illinois’ top scorer off the bench. The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 8.9 points and 4.5 rebounds on the year. He also shot a sizzling 41.6 percent from 3-point range. Griffin averaged around 18 minutes per contest off the bench.

Griffin was considered to be one of the top transfer players available this offseason.
