A former SEC offensive lineman has decided to continue his college football career in the B1G.
Thursday, ex-Mississippi State offensive lineman Brevyn Jones announced that he will be transferring to Illinois. He spent just one season with the Bulldogs before deciding to move on from the program. He was a three-star member of Mississippi State’s 2019 recruiting class.
Jones entered the transfer portal earlier this month, and it didn’t take him long to announce his next destination. He will have all four years of eligibility remaining after participating in just one contest a year ago, maintaining his redshirt status.
Due to NCAA transfer regulations, Jones will have to sit out the 2020 season unless he is granted immediate eligibility by the association or if transfer reform is adopted.
Lovie Smith has utilized the transfer portal better than most coaches throughout his tenure at Illinois. He’s been able to bring talented prospects from big-time programs to Champaign, where some have really shined.
Jones could be the next transfer player to enjoy a nice career at Illinois. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound offensive lineman will add depth up front for a program that has struggled in the trenches over the last four years. The Illini did show some improvement last season, finishing with a 6-7 record and appearing in a bowl game for the first time since 2014.
