Illinois had bulked up its defensive line during the offseason by adding Wisconsin graduate transfer defensive Christian Bell, giving the Illini some much-needed depth. But Bell has announced that he will be moving on before suiting up in the orange and blue.

Monday morning, Bell announced on Twitter that he has decommitted from Illinois and will reopen his recruitment for the upcoming season. He cited unforeseen circumstances as the reason behind his decision to move on.

“Due to an uncertain situation I have decided to decommit from the University of Illinois,” Bell wrote. “I want to thank the entire Illinois family and coaching staff for welcoming me! With that being said I am opening my recruitment back up! It’s not over until it’s over! God’s plan!”

Bell appeared in 24 games for the Badgers during his four years with the program, totaling eight tackles and two sacks. Because he redshirted in 2016, the defensive end will have one year of eligibility remaining at the college level.

Bell did not reveal any schools that might be in consideration.
