It might be the end of the Lovie Smith error in Illinois…sorry, era…the Illini head coach seeing another lopsided loss. Illinois is now 2-5 after a 28-10 loss at Northwestern.

At least basketball season is here, right?

In their fifth season under Smith, Illinois hasn’t had a winning record under the former NFL head coach during that time. It is part of a bad run for the program as the Illini hasn’t a winning season – period – since 2010 under Ron Zook.

Smith spent 11 years in the NFL as a head coach before returning to his roots in college. His lost two seasons were as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he had an 8-24 record.
